Keith Olbermann's words are a powerful call to action and compassion to see beyond what our party platforms or religious dogma might have us think. I only struggle with his beginning remarks about "not having any personal investment" in this. It makes me think about Lilla Watson's words about having a collective struggle for liberation. We don't have to have a friend or close loved one, and we don't have to be a direct member of a subordinated group to be invested in these kinds of struggles. We are all affected--my goodness and wholeness and peace of mind and identity are wrapped up in those of others. The very heart and power of injustice is that it doesn't just privilege one group and oppress another; it gets at the humanity of each and every one of us and tears at our potential for greatness, which is a painful and indescribable thing once we take a closer look and open up to feeling it.

Lilla Watson says, "If you have come to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together."
