Dancing and a Broken Table

Laura, Anyel and I had a blast with our new Quito friends on Friday night. We went to what was supposed to be a birthday party, but ended up being about 8 people sitting around staring at each other. They had a long, glass table on the patio with big speakers and a computer set up for music. It was basically a big sheet of glass resting on two pillars up against the wall. Apparently there was too much weight in the middle, because as we were sitting there it started to cave in and the whole deal crashed right to the floor. There was glass everywhere, mixed with some potting soil and ceramic pieces, not to mention the computer and the speakers. We were horrified, but everybody there just laughed and left it. Interesting difference. We asked if we could help clean it up, but they insisted that we not worry about it. We picked up the computer and speakers anyway, and found a bag for the big pieces of pottery, and then took it as our cue to cut out.

Cris and Pancho took us to a club very near to our houses, can't remember the name, to dance. We had a blast. They played a lot of old American music that had been dubbed over in spanish during the choruses, or sped up to be like disco. Pretty funny. Laura and Anyel and I shared a taxi, which was quite the adventure. Laura couldn't quite remember where she lived, and I don't think the anxiety of the "first taxi ride" helped very much. We got her home, and then had an easy time finding our own homes from there. Now that the "first" is out of the way, I think it'll be a very convenient way to get around at night. Not bad for the first Friday night on the town.
